When applying for a three-phase connection, both an electrician and the grid operator are involved. The grid operator is responsible for the cables and connection from the public electricity network up to the smart meter. The electrician is responsible for the electrical installation from the smart meter onwards throughout the property.
If you want to upgrade your electrical installation to a three-phase connection, we can prepare the installation for three-phase use. After this, the grid operator can carry out the upgrade to the main connection.
When applying for a three-phase connection, please take the following points into account:
- If you currently have a single-phase smart meter, please be aware that replacing it with a three-phase meter may involve additional costs.
- The grid operator may reject your application for a number of reasons.
- The distribution board may need to be replaced.
- First request the three-phase upgrade from your grid operator. After that, arrange for an electrician to prepare your installation. The grid operator will generally not upgrade the main connection if the meter cupboard and distribution board are not ready for three-phase operation.
- If the grid operator needs to install or modify supply cables, additional costs may apply.
