Induction cooking

Due to global instability, energy prices have risen significantly in recent years. One of the major increases in gas prices was caused, among other factors, by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and tensions involving Iran.

As a result, many households have started looking for alternatives to gas. More people are switching to induction cooking, choosing heat pumps to heat their homes, and replacing appliances such as condenser or vented tumble dryers with more energy-efficient heat pump dryers.

How does an induction hob work?

An induction hob heats cookware using magnetic fields. As soon as a suitable pan is placed on the glass surface, a magnetic field is created that directly heats the base of the pan. By supplying more power to the coils inside the hob, the magnetic field becomes stronger and the pan heats up more quickly. This allows the cooking temperature to be controlled accurately and efficiently.

There are several types of electrical connections that can be used for induction cooking. The correct connection depends on a number of factors.

  1. Do you have a suitable distribution board? With a three-phase distribution board, you can use a higher-power induction hob. This allows you to heat water more quickly and use multiple high-power cooking zones at the same time. For higher-power three-phase cooking, you will generally need a Perilex connection and a suitable Perilex plug.
  2. Available space in the distribution board. In some cases, the distribution board may need to be extended or upgraded.
  3. Electrical wiring. Higher-power installations often require a five-core cable or five conductors in the conduit.
  4. Type of induction hob. Some models operate at lower power, while others require a higher-capacity electrical connection.
